Greetings, everyone:
My name is Ryan Howe, and I am proud to be your con chair for Starbase Indy 2025! It’s a tough position but one I am up for and excited to get to work to bring you the best convention possible.
My background, like many of you, started with a friend inviting me to the convention several years ago. Since then, I have become hooked and volunteered ever since. I started volunteering as a room counter before moving to main stage assistant manager, main stage manager, hotel liaison, assisting with load-in the Wednesday prior to the convention, and helping with dead dog.
Don’t worry, it’s not what you think. No animals are harmed. It’s a term referring to the fact that everyone who helps with the tear down of the convention is that tried afterwards. In addition, I have assisted in planning other conventions roughly the same size as Starbase Indy for the last six years.
This is a special year for me as it marks twenty-five years of marriage. Part of the reason I stepped up to be con chair this year is to share this special year with my Starbase Indy family and create something truly special for all of you. We are listening to your feedback and suggestions and have many things planned.
Our theme this year is “Beyond the Stars” from the Deep Space Nine episode “Far Beyond the Stars.” I’m excited about this theme and opportunity it brings to Starbase Indy this year. In addition, we will be leaning heavily into a mirror, parallel, and alternate universe aesthetic.
I am proud that we are partnered once again with Marriott East this year. The layout is amazing, and the staff is incredible. Last year marked the end of a three-year contract with them. However, early last year, Marriott East offered us an additional year with the same incentives as the past three years. The board voted to act on this offer. However, I know that Mariott East is working hard to continue to upgrade their rooms and facilities. It should be fantastic for us this year as we will see what the future will hold for the convention to be a mainstay there.
We will be bringing back some fantastic guests. As you already noticed from our social media posts Michael “Knightmage” Wilson and Demetrius Witherspoon have both agreed to return this year. Please continue to check our social media for more announcements and updates coming soon.
We also are pleased to announce fan favorites, programs, and panels will be back as we look to add more items. Karaoke will be back as many of you mentioned how well that was liked last year along with the cos play contest. The con suite will also back again! In a time where many conventions are looking for ways to cut costs and often sacrifice things like a con suite, we are pleased to offer it for the second consecutive year. We will have the main stage bridge set back along with the same lighting and sound we were grateful to have from sponsors and people that support Starbase Indy.
So as my sleeves are rolled up, and I am working to bring you the best convention, please get involved in some aspect. I encourage you to volunteer, submit a panel, host a room party, get your badge, and reserve your room. This is not my convention but all of our convention. I am open to suggestions and any ideas you wish to present. Please feel free to email me or visit our website for ways to get involved. Starbase Indy is not just a convention, but a family. I am serious about that sense of community and inclusivity for everyone.
Many more announcements will start happening shortly with regards to guests, programming, away team events, and hotel room booking. Keep checking back on the site as we move with warp speed to Starbase Indy 2025.
Live long and prosper,
Ryan Howe
